  • Chess Tournament

The Chess tournament, held on 3 December 2024, in MCC Gymkhana was one of the most eagerly anticipated indoor events of the Annual Athletic Meet 2024. Before the commencement of the event, the inauguration ceremony was held with the blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Our Respected Principal Dr. Sonali Pednekar, Sports Director Mr. R.D. Mishra, and Gymkhana Chairperson Mr. Nitin Pawar were present to grace the occasion.

The tournament began promptly at 10:00 AM for the Degree College students and continued until 12:00 PM. The Junior College event started at 12:30 PM and ran until 3:00 PM. The competition was held in a knockout format, ensuring intense matches from the very beginning. All matches were played under standard chess rules, with each game featuring a 10-minute timer for both players (10 minutes v/s 10 minutes). However, the finals followed an enhanced format with a 15-minute timer for each player, plus a 5-second increment per move, ensuring even more strategic depth for the deciding games.

The tournament saw separate categories for Boys and Girls, with the top three finishers in each category earning points for their respective departments. In total, 58 participants, including both Degree and Junior College students, competed in the event.
